Taking out an engine or gearbox that is not worth repairing and fitting a replacement unit — new, reconditioned exchange or used — with its fluids, mounts and connections, then adapting or coding the electronics so the car accepts it, and road-testing. Often cheaper and quicker than rebuilding. Repairing or overhauling the original engine or gearbox is listed separately.
